Rose Will Get Better!!

Rose wandered alone, her appearance and the foul smell that came from her mange infected body offended many people.  She was shunned.  She ate from the garbage what ever scraps she could find.  I am not going to ask the questions regarding why or how she got to  this condition.  I will never find the answers.  This is a time to move forward.  Mange is curable. Unfortunately it doesn't stop there and the blood test at the vet found she also has Leishmania.  This, too, is curableThere is no need for Rose to have suffered so much.

She has been started on the simplest treatment for the Leishmania for now, a pill Zylapour that she will take everyday and she has had her first treatment for her mange.  This creature is going to  literally transform into a new dog!  A new life!  Please share her story and let her know there are people out there who care for her.

Update  April 7, 2014

What an amazing difference!   Here is Rose today looking much better than when we found her.  This afternoon I gave her the last of her baths for the mange that had infested her body.  She has gotten used to the routine and doesn't make a fuss.   She is putting on weight a little slower than we would like but her body is working hard on; recuperating from the mange and healing her skin, growing new fur and fighting the leishmania. All of this is taking up a great deal of energy.   She continues to take her pill everyday for the leishmania.  As she gets better we are seeing her true sprit.  She is very playful with the other dogs, she loves being pet and rubbed and being around people. She is a sweet and strong dog.   We cant wait to see her fully recovered.  Way to go Rose!!

It has been so moving watching Rose's extraordinary recovery!

She has an amazing spirit.  She is beautiful on the outside as she always was on the inside.  The pictures speak for themselves.  Meet the new Rose!

We are at the last leg of her recovery.  Rose had leishmania when we found her and has been taking an inexpensive drug, allopurinal, all these months.  We want to increase her chances for adoption. We would like to start therapy with Milteforan, a kind of chemotherapy that treats Leishmania once and for all.  If we don't do the Milteforan treatment she will be on the allopurinal for the rest of her life. The Milteforan treatment is expensive and it is administered according to her body weight.  We are looking at a cost of roughly 130 Euros.  We are going to need help from our friends to do the best we can for Rose!  She has done well on the allopurinal but we want to go all the way and give her the full treatment because.... well ....she deserves it!

Is there a friend out there who would like to help Rose, a very special girl? Please contact me at tinakan2@gmail.com, subject Rose, or send a donation through PAYPAL at tinakanellos2@hotmail.com.
Thank you

There is no greater satisfaction than seeing a dog that you have helped rescue move on to her forever home.  Although we were not able to raise the money for the Milteforan,  Rose has done just that...the odds being against her with leishmania, SHE HAS FOUND HER FOREVER HOME.  I would like to thank Orsalia Xatzi for fostering Rose all of this time; Gaia Dogs ...http://www.gaiadogs.org/,  who has been at our side since the begining of this summer and who helped with her rehoming and transfer to her new family.  Thank you Gaia dogs for all your help!  Way to go Rose, you are a beautiful dog.

This is what animal rescue is all about!!

Here is Rose in her forever home with her forever friend Hugo, from Kefalonia, whom this wonderful family also rescued!  Thank you to Gaia Dogs and thank you to Martin and his family for opening their arms to them.  This is what Rose's family had to say about her!

" Rose is a lovely and very sweet dog and she deserved a good home!! We are so happy with her, she is treated like a Queen by us!! She is very best friends with our other dog Hugo, he has come from Kefalonia and he has also leishmania. But at the moment they don't need medicine  .. its a miracle that Rose got so well."

Unbelievable!

I am so proud to say ... case closed!

K.K
