Cairo was transfered to the vet for x-rays. |
Some have a harder start in life than others! MEET CAIRO ... TOO YOUNG TO BE TAKEN FROM HIS MOTHER; Two and a half months old, WANDERING ALONE HE WAS HIT BY A CAR!!
His left hind leg has a very bad fracture. The upper femur is broken, sitting above the lower part of the bone, it has shifted out of place. Can you imagine the pain this little guy has been through!
CAIRO NEEDS OUR HELP!! HE NEEDS IT NOW!!
Cairo is quiet, barely moves and did not let out a sound through out his exam. |
We need to
raise 250 euros by Tuesday, September 23 for his surgery. We need all the help we can get. Each little amount will bring us closer to
our goal. Through paypal you may donate
to tinakanellos2@hotmail.com, attention:

donation to his account. In the case of
the latter please leave a personal message at the e-mail above or in the comments here. .

IT IS SURGERY DAY FOR CAIRO!
He is a quiet, adorable little dog who has been so brave all week waiting for his surgery day. He is about to get his leg fixed and from here on we will work to make sure he is never left alone and helpless again. Cairo had a guardian angel and we would like to thank that angel for being there for him! MAY ALL GO WELL CAIRO! Please share his story to support our work.

CAIRO HAS COME HOME from the vet (Friday, September 26th).....
... and he has been doing very well. A few pins were put in place to hold the broken
femur together. He is slowly starting to
use that leg. It will take a while for
the leg to heal completely and then he will be ready to find a forever
home. Until that time I get to enjoy this
little guy’s presence. He is a very
sweet, quiet yet playful little puppy. When
I went to pick him up from the clinic, one of the vets didn’t want to part with
him as he had been quiet good company during his stay.
YOUR SUCH A CUTIE, CAIRO!

It was about time and what a relief for Cairo to get the pin in his leg out. He, the brave little soul that he is, did so well once again at the vet last week.
Once the pin was out his walk and stance improved considerably! He is growing fast and has spent more time this week outdoors playing with the other dogs and building the strength in his leg.
Below you can see him as he is today, November 7th. It is raining outside so he is staying dry and warm in his bed. Notice the incision on his hind leg has almost disappeared.
A special thank you to F. D., for without you this could not have happeneed!

Here is Cairo sleeping with another rescue, Jessica, just before leaving for their new homes. |
The most rewarding part of rescue work is seeing a rescue move on to a forever loving home. Cairo has done just that. His new name is Kai and this past weekend with the help of Gaia Dogs a wonderful family opened their arms to him. They had been waiting for him with much excitment and I am sure he is more than they could imagine. As for me, Cairo will always be in my heart...my little clown, my little Cairo. I love you little boy and I know you will have a great life! Thank you Faye D for your generous donation for his surgery in September, thank you Bart and Anja for opening your arms to him, thank you to http://www.gaiadogs.org/ for all your support and help!
Here is Cairo, now Kai, enjoying a chew in his new home.
For the Strays,
K.K.
